Classic Sloppy Joes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper (optional)

  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3/4 cup ketchup

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional, for extra richness)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tsp salt (to taste)

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (optional, for a bit of a kick)

  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted if desired)

  • Butter for toasting buns (optional)


Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef and break it apart while cooking.

    • Cook until browned and no longer pink (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
